Vineyard Notes
Vintage 2015 was hot and dry, like 2007, from late spring through to final days of harvest. Due to the early flowering and a hot June, vines produced tiny grapes. The small crop ripened early in the Fall with a high skin-to-juice ratio yielding black-colored wines dense with richness and tannin. 2015 in Washington is both lovely young and age worthy for decades with the density of glycerin, tannin and perfumed fruit.
Production Notes
83% Cabernet Franc | 17% Merlot
Winemaker Notes
"We machine harvested the Merlot with the most advanced Pellenc Selectif Harvester on September 15 and hand harvested the Cabernet Franc on September 25. We fermented for twelve days in 2 and 4-ton fermenters developing powerful extraction of flavors and tannins. Fermentation finished in puncheons and traditional Bordeaux barrels where we aged on lees in a modern style developing savory tones complementary to the powerful fruit. After 16 months, we blended and bottled our favorite barrel selection for this vibrant and youthful blend. Egg white fined and filtered for clarity at bottling, this rich wine will age for a decade or more. Enjoy with a host of foods throughout the seasons." - Caleb Foster, Winemaker

Big on the nose flavors typical of Cab Franc but medium bodied and smooth on the finish. Big Cab Franc taste, but drinks more like a blend. One of my new favorites, especially for the price point.

From wine blog:

I've always kind of joked to myself that Cabernet Franc is the smaller, weaker cousin of Cabernet Sauvignon. Maybe the middle child who didn't get enough attention? I've just seldom had a truly grand experience with Cab Franc, but as the Monkees would "I'm a believer". The 2015 Suspense Cabernet Franc from Bookwalter Winery will change the way you think about this wine. While it's not 100% Cab Franc, the 17% Merlot blend is smart and adds some depth and complexity to this Columbia Valley wine. After the gorgeous deep garnet color, the nose presents lively cherry aromas with earthly sage and whiffs of pomegranate. Where this wine really, really got me was the surprise on the palate. There was an unconventional and incredibly welcoming spice that joined the Cremè de cassis, cherry, raspberry and smooth-as-glass finish that leads to a very memorable tasting experience. This is a healthy wine that is going to age amazingly and would be fun to taste every year for the next ten years and compare notes. While this wine is a fun solo sipper, it would be well represented with a grilled ham steak, Polish sausage or a number of non-traditional meats.

Such a stunning Cab Franc. By far one of my favorites out of WA state. This wine is perfect with or without food.
