Our classical blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon displays the terroir of Conner Lee Vineyard in gorgeous form.
"There is a very fresh, upbeat, and floral style on the nose with a wealth of earth, bracken, and leafy nuances on offer. The palate has a beautifully composed core of fresh blue-fruit flavors, carried on fresh and fine tannins"-94 Points James Suckling
All About Literature
Conflict has a long history with J. Bookwalter Winery.
It was the third literary named wine in our portfolio. The first being Chapter 1 in 2002. The second was the Protagonist in 2006. Conflict made its appearance in 2007 and is nearly entirely sourced from Conner Lee Vineyard. Conflict has always been dominated by Conner Lee Fruit, with the exception of 2017.
A Year Of Conflict
The 2017 vintage had its challenges, mostly due to the smoke that lingered in the air during the critical part of the growing season. This lead us to abandon the majority of the Conner Lee fruit. For the first time in its long history, the 2017 vintage of Conflict was made with fruit from Dionysus Vineyard.
A Red Blend Classic
Conflict has always been a red blend, and while the exact make-up has varied throughout the years, it has always been a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, occasionally flip-flopping on which played the dominant role. In more recent vintages, it has been nearly an even split between these two classic Bordeaux varietals and usually complemented with a touch of Malbec.
Top of its Class
Consistently a top-rated wine, Conflict has been named in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 list twice before. Once for the 2007 vintage and again for the 2009 vintage. The 2015 Vintage was hailed by Wine Spectator as the top Merlot blend from Washington State. The 2016 vintage was named by James Suckling as one of the top red wines from Washington State.
"This is a consistently top red from the State of Washington."- James Suckling
Our classical blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon displays the terroir of Conner Lee Vineyard in gorgeous form. Our outstanding 1992 Merlot block we blend with our old block 1987 & 1988 Cabernet in this reserve selection. Warm vintages for Conner Lee Vineyard are our favorites, showing off big ripe flavors balanced by the cool site’s fresh acidity. Expect this wine to last for ten to twenty years and show its best from one year after release.
Suave and complex with classical aromatics of currants and dark berries married to new French oak and savory earthiness. Supported by 2% Malbec bring spice and pepper notes with aromatic brightness. Cabernet Sauvignon’s tannic intensity vies with the voluptuous Merlot for attention in this dynamic wine.
"Pellenc Selectiv machine harvested Merlot and Cabernet fruit swiftly and on time across our acres. The Pellenc Selectiv sorted and destemmed the harvest into small open top fermenters used for punch down and pump over mixing. Pressed after three weeks of fermentation mixing, free run was chosen for this wine to age in new French oak puncheons. Finishing ferment in cooperage, we aged on lees for body and savory complexity. Aged for 18 months until blending for bottling, the wine was vibrant and youthful. Egg white fined for clarity, this wine will age for over ten years. Age and enjoy with a host of foods throughout the season of many years ahead." Caleb Foster, Winemaker
